Dear Friends and Supporters, Those of you who have been following our reports will know that we have had another eventful year. The CAER heritage project has become a reality and in April Time Team came to the Caerau Hillfort. (Their programme of the excavation will be shown early next year.) Most of the repairs needed to keep the remains of the old church standing for another year have been completed with the promise that more will be done as they become necessary. The latest and most important news is that, a ‘Task Force’ comprising local and other interested people has been set up, with the aim of keeping St. Mary’s churchyard, the ringwork and hillfort site clear of rubbish, as well as general hedge trimming, and removing weeds from the church walls, for example the tower, to stop damage to its fragile structure. The Task Force group has come together under the leadership of Dave Horton, Senior Development Worker of Action Caerau and Ely (ACE) organisation involving local people wanting to make a difference to their community. As well as general clearing of litter and the like, the group acts as a social get-together, with the sharing of local knowledge and history of the site. At our second meeting in December we enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies after completing our work, followed by Christmas lunch at Coopers Restaurant (the old Culverhouse Cross public house). The work group aims to meet once a month on the first Tuesday of each month, starting at 11a.m and finishing about 1pm. The next meeting will be on Tuesday 5th February 2013, NOT in January (New Year’s Day). Everyone who can spare the time is most welcome to join in. The next Friends event will be the Annual Inspection of St. Mary’s and St. David Day celebrations this year being held on Saturday 2nd March 2013 at 12 p.m. midday. We are hoping that our young Friends will join us usual and that there will be activities for them. Tea/coffee and Welsh cakes will be provided also. Please join us for this happy event. Our grateful and sincere thanks as always to everyone who has supported the work of The Friends. We look forward to your continuing support and wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year. Delia
