Father Jones and the Church he built.

The Rev. Victor (Father) Jones passed away on Tuesday 20th April 2010.

Father Jones had been unwell for some time and had intended to move into a Clergy-run care home in Exeter. It was thought he would be moving to the care home after Easter. However, before the arrangements could be made, he was admitted to hospital near his home on the South Coast, where, sadly, he died on the Tuesday evening.

As many of you know, Father Jones was the driving force behind the restoration and rebuilding of St. Mary’s Church at Caerau in 1959/1960, and took Services there and at St. Timothy’s, before leaving to serve as chaplain in the Royal Navy.

We were so glad that he was able to attend the Welcome Home event, held in his honour last August at St. Mary’s. He was overjoyed that so many former parishioners, neighbours and friends turned out to welcome him back to St. Mary’s, even though, it must be said, it pained him to see his beloved old church in its present ruinous state.

Father Jones had previously expressed his desire, when the time came, to have his ashes scattered at St. Mary’s, and this has been confirmed by his brother, Peter Jones.

Following the cremation, attended by close family only (no flowers, please), Peter will get in touch with The Friends to arrange the scattering of Father Jones’s ashes. We will keep you informed.

Our thoughts and sympathy are with Father Jones’s family.

We will miss him.
